Losing Weight Can Cause Cancer Heres How Epidemiologists Studies Can Skew Science To Fit Ideological Viewpoints

Weight Loss Surgery Found to Reduce Cancer Risk

Study Finds Significant Reduction in Cancer Cases Among Bariatric Surgery Patients

Early Detection and Prevention a Key Benefit of Weight Loss Surgery

A recent study has found that people who have lost significant amounts of weight through bariatric surgery have a significantly reduced risk of developing cancer. The study, which was published in the journal JAMA Surgery, found that participants who had bariatric surgery had a 14% lower risk of developing cancer than those who did not have surgery.

The study's lead author, Dr. Christopher C. Thompson, said that the findings suggest that weight loss surgery may be a viable option for reducing cancer risk, especially among people who are obese or overweight. "Our findings provide further evidence that bariatric surgery is not only a safe and effective way to lose weight, but it may also have long-term benefits in reducing the risk of cancer," said Dr. Thompson.

The study included over 13,000 participants who were followed for an average of 10 years. During that time, 1,362 participants were diagnosed with cancer. The researchers found that the risk of cancer was reduced by 14% among participants who had bariatric surgery compared to those who did not have surgery. The reduction in cancer risk was seen across all types of cancer, including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer.

The researchers believe that the reduced risk of cancer among bariatric surgery patients may be due to a number of factors, including weight loss, changes in metabolism, and reduced inflammation. "Weight loss is known to reduce the levels of hormones that can promote cancer growth," said Dr. Thompson. "Additionally, bariatric surgery can improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation, which may also lead to a reduced risk of cancer."
